When I heard about our assignment to make a surrealist bust I began researching for ideas. I wanted to tie in something related to the ocean. My initial idea was to have a design with an octopus on top of the head. Instead to make it more surrealistic looking, I incorporated the octopus tentacles as hair. I then wanted to bring other elements into the face so I replaced one eye with multiple starfish. I also added some seaweed moss on the shoulders to give the bust a more colorful sea life feel. I kept human elements with one eye, ears and lips to contrast the surrealistic features. I choose the blue color for the lips to bring some color and coldness of the ocean into the face.
